MPI Requirements

Bringing your pet to New Zealand?

Importing cats and dogs into New Zealand requires meeting specific Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) requirements. Here's what's involved:

Check eligibility

Confirm your country of origin and MPI's approved pathways for your pet

Complete vaccinations

Ensure vaccinations are current, given no more than 1 year and no less than 21 days before arrival

Obtain import permit

Apply for your MPI import permit well in advance of your travel date

Book with Pet Haven

Secure your space with a $200 NZD deposit per pet — we'll handle the rest on arrival
